FORT PIERCE, Fla. — We love to watch colorful butterflies flitting among the flowers and listen to songbirds serenading us from the trees. Come learn how to entice butterflies and birds by cultivating appropriate plants in your backyard and by doing so keep our waterways clean with the added benefit of mitigating climate change. Host butterfly plants will be available for purchase.
This Florida Master Naturalist Learning Series topic will be presented on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m. at the Port St. Lucie Botanical Gardens, 2410 SE Westmoreland Blvd., Port St. Lucie. The informational evening is presented by the Florida Master Naturalist Program–St. Lucie Chapter, under the facilitation of the UF/IFAS Extension St. Lucie County Natural Resources Extension Agent.
Presenter Diane Goldberg is a certified Florida Master Naturalist, Florida Master Gardener and graduate of Barry University. She serves as the Conservation Chair for the St. Lucie County Audubon Society and as a past officer for the St. Lucie County chapter of the Native Plant Society. She audited a Florida native plant class from Sandra Wilson at the University of Florida and took a native class online from George Rogers, instructor at Palm Beach College. Ms. Goldberg has long been active with the Conservation Alliance of St. Lucie County and, along with amateur botanist John Bradford, helped to survey the diverse native flora species at the former Halpatiokee Buffer Preserve in Port St. Lucie where she assisted park rangers in moving endangered bromeliads.
