Five scholarships and Pioneer Award announced

WAUPUN, Wis. — East Central/Select Sires, based in Waupun and serving southern Wisconsin, held their 2017 annual meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the Crowne Plaza, Madison.

Jerome Meyer, East Central/Select Sires general manager,  talked with delegates about the partnership with Accelerated Genetics and touched on a variety of data from the 2016-2017 fiscal year. “Combined efforts from our employees led to total unit sales of 595,535, an increase of 17,051 units,” noted Meyer. “Our member service representatives bred 403,766 services, and our employees sold $2,809,583 of diversified products and supplies — an increase of 17 percent over last year.”

President and CEO of Select Sires, Inc., Dave Thorbahn, was the keynote speaker, giving delegates more detailed information about the partnership with Accelerated Genetics and the variety of construction projects in motion at the Westby, Wis., bull-housing-and-collection facilities.

During the East Central/Select Sires Annual Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 22, retired general manager, Alan Deming, was honored with the prestigious Pioneer Award for his dedicated service to the employees and membership of East Central/Select Sires. Deming is pictured with his wife, Betty.

East Central/Select Sires presented five, $1,000 scholarships to college students pursuing education in agricultural-related fields. Scholarship recipients included Kalista Hodorff, Eden, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Abigail Martin, Janesville, University of Wisconsin-Madison; Kati Kindschuh, Brownsville, University of Wisconsin-River Falls; Logan Voigts, Platteville, University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Matthew Kramer, Saint Cloud, University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

The highest honor of the day went to Alan Deming, retired East Central/Select Sires general manager. He was awarded the prestigious Pioneer Award for his dedicated service to the patron customers and employees of East Central/Select Sires.

Four districts in East Central/Select Sires’ territory held elections, and all four incumbents were elected back onto the East Central/Select Sires Board of Directors: district one, Rick Adams, Elkhorn; district three, Steve Abel, Eden; district five, Randy Nigh, Viroqua; and district 7, Jeff Hendrickson, Belleville. Meyer also recognized the three new board members who came with the Accelerated Genetics partnership: Scott Dahlk, Verona; Kenneth Levzow, Rio; and Krista Dolan, Dodgeville.
