ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farmers invite the public to this FREE, interactive and fun event on Saturday, April 1st from 2pm – 5pm at M/Body Gym, 1048 University Ave., Rochester, NY.
Numerous CSA farms will share their 2017 season information with the public, encouraging them to join in on a purchase of fresh, healthy and locally grown produce and other agricultural products from their farms.
There, community members will be able to talk directly to the farmers, learn about their growing practices and CSA models to ‘find their farmer’ – a CSA that would best suit their needs.
What is a CSA? Traditional CSA operations are designed to create a close relationship between a farm and its customers. By joining in, members support a local farm with an upfront financial commitment to buy its produce. The money goes directly to the farmer, providing him/her with an infusion of crucial cash for the upcoming season investments such as purchase of new seeds and technology upgrades.
Although, all traditional CSAs cut out the middle man while seeking the support from local community members, their models can differ from each other. Some provide their members with a farm life experience, inviting their members to work in ‘the field’ for a couple of hours weekly. The idea is that the members interact with the farmer directly and are involved in growing their own food. Other CSAs deliver a complete full or half-share package to a convenient drop off location for the members’ pick up. These members need not to go directly to the farm. Also a structure of payment can vary as some farmers require a full payment upfront and some use a pay-as-you-go system. The community members can come and select a models that fits them best.
There will be a bounty of the region to choose from including locally grown healthy and fresh vegetables, small fruits, other food items, or even flower bouquets.
Come and join us! There will be live music, local beer, and most importantly, REAL FARMERS!
