SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Jason Frye of Pleasant Lane Farms, Latrobe, Pa., was interviewed by KDKA News in Pittsburgh on Wednesday, June 23, in a story pitched by American Dairy Association North East to highlight National Dairy Month. Frye was featured for nearly 11 minutes in two live segments to build trust in dairy by discussing sustainability and animal care issues, which is what consumers care most about after taste and convenience.
“We often facilitate these types of interviews with local media stations to ensure that positive, factual dairy messaging is being shared with consumers,” said ADA North East CEO Rick Naczi. “Jason did an outstanding job weaving in the sustainability and animal care issues, which are what consumers truly care about when it comes to choosing dairy.”
The Fryes milk about 40 cows with one robotic milker, processing a portion of the milk into artisanal cheese under The Creamery at Pleasant Lane Farms label which is sold in Pittsburgh markets, and selling the rest of the milk to Turner Dairy in Pittsburgh.
Frye showed the reporter the robotic milking system, explaining the technology and the cows’ comfort with it. They also spent time in the calf barn where Frye explained the importance of caring for calves so they will grow to be “future cheesemakers.”
“We know people are interested in where their food comes from, so we look at opportunities like this to get in front of consumers to show them what a modern dairy farm is all about,” said Frye. “I would encourage other farmers to take advantage of media opportunities to tell their dairy story, and as a farm with a value-added product, this is a platform for us to show what we have to offer.”
