CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Is there a better way to celebrate end of summer in the Finger Lakes than by sharing a meal with local dining and hospitality professionals? The Farm-to-Table industry project AlFrescoFLX invites you to celebrate the end of summer at a [Zero Waste] Family Dinner featuring food from Chef Samantha Buyskes and local restaurants Café Sol, Nolan’s, NY Kitchen, Simply Crêpes, and Newbury Park Pastries.
The event is being held on Monday, October 7 with doors open at 5:00 p.m. and dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. at Lincoln Hill Farms at 3792 NY-247, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Tickets are $50 and, for families, $25 for children accompanying their parents. College students with valid IDs are also welcomed to register for $25. People can register at the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce website along with more information on the event.
“Sharing a meal with your community is a tradition that we’re trying to build on with AlFrescoFLX,” says Ethan Fogg, Executive Director of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce where the AlFrescoFLX Project is housed, “The harvest season is about taking stock and planning ahead, and at this farm-to-table meal we want to build community and conversation among people who are meeting each other for the first time or are already friends.”
One creative way hosts are trying to encourage conversation is by setting the goal of making the event zero waste. Since the meal is being held on-the-farm at event venue Lincoln Hill Farms, they were inspired to be more environmentally friendly. The hosts are also encouraging guests to bring their own tableware, drinkware, and utensils to reduce waste and to start conversations. Whether someone brings their newest dishes, their heirloom china, or their favorite thrift store find, it is one way to be environmentally friendly and creative.
In addition to the line-up of Finger Lakes restaurants, there will be beverages provided by Heron Hill, Star Cider, Red Jacket Orchards, The Dalai Java and more. F. Oliver’s in Canandaigua is also supplying ingredients for the chefs to use.
AlFrescoFLX is a project of the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce to support the growing Farm-to-Table industry in the Finger Lakes. The project is in partnership with organizations like Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County.
