LEWIS, N.Y. — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County held their annual meeting on Friday, October 18 at Boquet Valley Central School (BVCS) in Elizabethtown, NY. Highlighted this year were CCE’s efforts to introduce healthy, locally produced food into area schools through the farm-to-school program. The meeting included a delicious farm-to-school dinner showcasing the cafeteria management’s and staff’s efforts to consistently source school food from local farms and other businesses. Josh Meyer, BVCS superintendent, addressed the crowd with a presentation celebrating these collaborations, “Solving the World’s Problems Through School/Community Partnerships”.
Friend of Extension awards were presented to Krissy Leerkes, Director of the Essex County Office for the Aging and Krista Berger, Director of the Essex County WIC Program. Distinguished service awards were presented to board members Barbara Dwyer, Steven Ives and Jori Wekin as they leave the board at the end of 2019. Quality of Life Program Committee chair Tom McNally was also honored for his many years of service to CCE Essex.
