HARRISBURG, Pa. — Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding has invited aspiring performers to enter “Oh, Say, Can You Sing?”, a star-spangled sing-off on Facebook that would put talented Pennsylvanians center stage during the 103rd Pennsylvania Farm Show. Each morning of the Farm Show will feature a talented Pennsylvanian singing the national anthem live, and the contest, which runs until Nov. 5, will determine who wins the honor of singing each morning.
“Just like Americans have a proud tradition of honoring our nation by singing the national anthem, Pennsylvanians honor our commonwealth’s agriculture industry through the annual Farm Show,” said Sec. Redding. “Our country, our commonwealth, and our industry are just a few of the things we’re proud to honor with this event each year. I look forward to all of the talented Pennsylvanians who enter this challenge showcasing their skills and helping us kick off the 103rd Farm Show each day.”
The contest is open to Pennsylvania residents of all ages — both individuals and groups. Contestants enter by uploading a video of themselves singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” without instrumental accompaniment, to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Facebook page, facebook.com/pafarmshow.
Videos must be uploaded between Oct. 25 at 8 a.m. and Nov. 5 at noon. Entrants who do not have Facebook accounts may submit a video via a parent or guardian’s account.
Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges. Finalists will be posted for fan voting by Facebook likes from Nov. 9 through 14. Five winners in the Individual category and five winners in the Group category will be selected and announced on Facebook. Winners must be present at the Farm Show Complex by 7:45 a.m. on the day they are selected to sing. A winner will sing live at 8 a.m., each day of the 2019 Pennsylvania Farm Show, from Jan. 5-12, 2019.
Full contest details are available here or on the Farm Show Facebook page. Find out more about the Pennsylvania Farm Show at www.farmshow.pa.gov.
