ENFIELD, Conn. — Farm Credit East announced today that the Farm Credit East Cares Community Fund donated $144,000 to various charitable organizations across the Northeast to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Recipients were selected by local branch offices.
“Farm Credit East Cares was created to support farm families, their communities and support organizations during times of need,” said Mike Reynolds, Farm Credit East CEO. “Many of our region’s agricultural producers are working with local food banks to provide fresh products for residents impacted by the pandemic. These funds will help those food banks continue to assist those in need, while also supporting the region’s producers.”
More than 60 northeast organizations providing food to those in need along with other support services were selected by staff from Farm Credit East’s 20 branch offices to receive funds.
“Farm Credit East Cares was initiated by our employees, and during this time of year when staff look forward to participating in local community events that have been canceled for 2020, these contributions are a way to continue to provide financial support for food banks and other local organizations,” continued Reynolds.
The Farm Credit East Cares Community Fund was established in 2011 to provide support for farm families and organizations impacted by crisis or disaster. In years without a disaster, funds are contributed to local and regional not-for-profit charitable organizations. Since inception, Farm Credit East Cares has donated over $803,000.
