QUEENSBURY, N.Y. — This hands on three part course applies your farm’s specific needs to real world business planning. You will use a combination of one on one consulting, and a small group collaborative learning environment to achieve your goals. By participating in this workshop, you will: Have a better understanding of the importance of routinely having financial statements prepared for your business. Learn ways to examine the financial health of your business. Enhance your decision-making skills by gaining some tips on how to use financial information in the process.
What: A hands on workshop to allow farmers to learn how to prepare a financial analysis.
When: March 14, 21, 28 – 1 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Where: SUNY ADK, Business Central, Regional Higher Education building, room #137
Here is a brief description of what is covered each week. Week 1, Taking the Snapshot of your Equity – Get to know your finances, and begin the process of preparing a balance sheet for your farm. Week 2, The Bigger Picture – Organize your income and expenses to calculate farm profit. Discuss what kind of adjustments may need to be made. Week 3, What does This All Mean? – Identify the strong and weak points in your business. From there, we will have a discussion on how to use these tools for making business decisions for 2017 and beyond!
An Excel worksheet will be made available to assist you in gathering necessary information and doing some of the calculations for you. Paper resources will be available as well.
