FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — Approximately 200 Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) members and guests are gathering in Framingham, Massachusetts, this week to establish policy for the upcoming year, attend workshops and learning sessions, as well as enjoy good food, entertainment and a bit of rest and relaxation away from the farm.
This year’s MFBF’s annual meeting is a value-packed program with workshops that will focus on pesticide certification, being an effective member of Farm Bureau, agricultural education, risk management and more.
“Once again we have a strong line-up of workshops for our members to attend,” said MFBF President Ed Davidian, who farms in Northborough. “Looking to build on past years’ successes, we took a hands-on approach to this meeting and are able to provide our members with respirator fit testing, pesticide credits and a broader outlook on how we can bring agriculture into Massachusetts classrooms.”
Additionally, fundraisers for the Massachusetts FFA and MFBF Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) committee are scheduled to be held tomorrow.
“Time and time again, we see farmers being generous and donating their income back to young, agricultural leaders,” Davidian said. “Our members are always kind enough to help support the future generation in their leadership endeavors.”
The annual meeting will conclude with Friday’s session focused on MFBF’s policy priorities, with MFBF delegates and Board of Directors holding business meetings.
“The meeting on Friday really highlights our membership-based, grassroots organization structure,” Davidian said. “We will discuss and vote on resolutions that were adopted at county Farm Bureau annual meetings and that were prepared by the resolutions committee. Resolutions that are adopted on Friday become MFBF policy, which guides MFBF leadership and staff in setting priorities.”
Following the statewide meeting, if a resolution has national applicability, the state Farm Bureau will bring the resolution to American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting for consideration.
Additional information about the MFBF’s annual meeting agenda, location and more is availablehere. Those not attending in person can follow the digital conversation on MFBF’s Facebook and/orTwitter.
