BERNE, N.Y. — Are you interested in joining us in our educational efforts for the 2018 Family Farm Day? Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County, Albany County Soil and Water, and the CN Tommell Farm are teaming up to offer an open farm day for the community. This year’s Family Farm Day event will be held on September 9th, 2018 from 11:00am-3:00pm at CN Tommell Farm (142 Rock Road, Berne, NY 12023). The Tommell Family focuses on providing top notch cattle for the beef market. In addition to cattle, we would love to highlight the diversity of agriculture in New York State.
What: Family Farm Day
When: September 9, 2018
Where: 142 Rock Road, Berne, NY 12023
Held at the Stanton Dairy Farm in Coeyman’s Hollow in 2017, the 1st Annual Family Farm Day hosted over 800 people from the Capital Region and three neighboring states. Visitors came to learn about what happens on a modern dairy, where their food comes from, and why agriculture is so important to our community, state, and beyond. In 2018, we hope to build on our past success and engage at least that many guests at CN Tommell Farm. New York is very diverse agriculturally and this is something we want to share with our guests! We will have educational displays on bees and honey, vegetable production, herbs and their uses, as well as walks through the farm to help people better understand beef production and modern farming techniques.
Are you interested in having a booth at the 2018 Family Farm Day? We do ask that there is an education component in all displays, but if you are an Albany County farmer or a regional service provider (tractor dealer, feed mill, etc.) and would like to join us, please contact Ashley atarp253@cornell.edu or 518-765-3500 for an application. All applications are due by June 29, 2018. Each application will be vetted by the planning committee and you will be made aware of the final decision shortly thereafter. Please consider joining us for another great year of agriculture education at Family Farm Day!
