BARCO, N.C. — Fall is the best time of year to plant garden plants and trees in mild winter climates, including native plants and drought-tolerant plants. When compared to spring planting, fall planting shows a significant increase in growth after the first year for most trees and shrubs. If you are interested in adding new plants to your house or garden, check out the Extension Master Gardenerâ„ volunteers of Currituck County’s annual Fall Plant Sale.
The Fall Plant Sale will be held at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Currituck County Center on Friday, September 20, 2019, from 1 to 7 p.m. The sale will continue on Saturday, September 21, for a half-day, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The sale will be held outdoors between the YMCA and Cooperative Extension buildings. Patrons will have opportunities to purchase natives, sustainable trees, shrubs, herbs, perennials, camellias, and more while benefiting the ongoing stewardship and enhancement of the gardens, educational programs, and outreach activities. Gardening experts will also be on hand to provide free planting advice and answer customer questions. Half of all proceeds from the sale will go to the YMCA LiveStrong program.
If you have questions about the event, or if you need accommodations for persons with disabilities please contact Chris Blaha at 252-232-2262 or email ctblaha@ncsu.edu no later than five business days before the event.
