ST. JAMES, Mo. — University of Missouri Extension will present Woodland Steward: Management and Mushrooms from 1:00-4:00 p.m. February 27th at Maramec Springs in St. James Missouri.
This program provide information on forest stand improvement, a common forest management practice that improves forest health. There will also be information on propagating mushrooms using the log byproducts from a forest stand improvement. This program will be taught by Sarah Havens, Field Specialist in Natural Resources.
“Much of Missouri’s forests are overstocked which increases competition between trees and slower growth” said Havens. Forest stand improvement can improve forest health, increase timber value in the long term and help control invasive species. Each participant will inoculate a log with shiitake mushrooms to take with them.
