UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Beef cattle producers who would like to learn how to consistently and effectively market meat from their animals can attend a two-day workshop offered by Penn State Extension with support from the Pennsylvania Beef Producers Working Group on October 22-23, 2019, at Penn State University Park.
The Beef Cattle Short Course will feature the science and practices aimed at improving beef marketing as well as topics related to beef cattle production. The course will include various lectures, keynote speakers, and hands-on demonstrations from experts in the cattle industry. Topics include live cattle evaluation, marketing beef cattle, meat quality, nutrition, and pricing structures.
“One of the main advantages of this course is that we provide producers the opportunity to evaluate cattle live – on the hoof – and then to evaluate those same carcasses the following day,” said Dr. Tara Felix, a beef specialist for Penn State Extension. “This opportunity will provide producers with a better understanding of when and how to market the beef from their cattle”
Cost of the two-day course is $25 per participant. Space is limited to the first 60 registrants where attendees are expected to be present both days. Lunch will be provided.
