MINNEAPOLIS — Network with fellow dairy producers and learn from experts in the field as Sustainable Farming Association and Dairy Grazing Apprenticeship host two upcoming events focused on helping family dairies remain profitable and sustainable farm businesses.
First is a free Master Grazier Roundtable from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fri., Jan. 3, at Cornerstone Buffet & Restaurant, 223 E Kraft Dr, Melrose. If you are a Master Grazier with DGA or interested in becoming one, this event will give you the latest news and information about the DGA program. Lunch is provided and will be followed by a keynote presentation, “Farm Stress,” by Emily Wilmes of U. of M. Extension.
Next is a farmer panel, “The Future of Dairy,” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thurs., Jan. 9, during the Minnesota Organic Conference at River’s Edge Center, St. Cloud. Looking for skilled labor on your dairy farm or someone to pass the farm onto when you retire? Want to get into dairy farming but don’t know how? These questions and many others will be answered during this session, led by DGA’s Angie Walter and Bonnie Haugen and featuring master grazier Nate Walter and his apprentice/journey worker, Ryan Heinen, who will discuss their experience with the program and will present relevant discussion for both experienced and emerging farmers.
