Winter Green-Up 2020

Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County and the Capital Area Agriculture & Horticulture Program are pleased to announce the Twelfth Annual Winter Green-Up, the Northeast’s original grazing conference, to be held January 25, 2020 at The Century House in Latham, NY from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. We’re looking forward to great speakers, vendors and the traditional Winter Green-Up lunch, featuring grass-fed meats!

Admission for Winter Green-Up 2020 is $80.00 per adult and $60 per youth (ages 12-18) if registered and paid in advance. Prices for walk-ins/at the door are $100.00 per adult and $70 per youth (ages 12-18). These prices include all talks, activities and buffet lunch.

Winter Green-Up has a long tradition of presenting speakers with expertise in grazing, meat and food production, and livestock handling. Winter Green-Up 2020 is no exception. This year’s speakers include Diana Rodgers, RD, LDN, author of Sacred Cow: The Case For Better Meat and the host of The Sustainable Dish Podcast. Diana will discuss the intersection of optimal human nutrition and regenerative agriculture, drawing on her book and research.

Mike Baker, PDN, PhD, Cornell Beef Cattle Extension Specialist, has 35 years of experience working with farmers at county, regional and state levels. Mike will be joined by Christian Peters, PhD, Associate Professor at Tufts University, to present Overcoming Supply Chain Barriers to Expanding Northeast Ruminant Meat Production, based on their joint research.

Lexie Hain, MSc, co-founder of Agrivoltaic Solutions LLC, homestead farmer with expertise in design, land conservation, marketing and education will present Sheep + Solar = The New Power Couple, exploring the use of grazing sheep for vegetation management around solar arrays.

Abe Collins, grazier, consultant and co-founder of LandStream, Inc., with experience grazing sheep, beef and dairy livestock, will present Hiring Farmers to Grow Deep-Soil Watershed Infrastructure and Critical Ecosystem Services.
