On-Farm Grain Storage Management Workshop
Event Navigation

Cornell Cooperative Extension Albany County and the Capital Area Agriculture & Horticulture Program will hold an On-Farm Grain Storage Management Meeting on March 31, 2020 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hewitt Farms, 37 Hewitt Lane, Troy, NY, 12180.
Would you want moisture or insects to destroy your money in the bank? Why would it be any different for your year’s harvest of grain stored in your bins? As temperatures change from winter to spring to summer, maintaining grain quality in storage can be difficult.
We will discuss the challenges of putting in grain last fall and storing it this past winter, and how to manage your grain going into the spring and summer. Aaron Gabriel (CCE) and Ken Wise (NYS IPM) will review principles of sanitation, loading, aeration, and monitoring as well as pest management for stored grain. Erik Merrel, NY Center for Ag Medicine & Health, will discuss safety protocols for working at a grain storage facility.
The last hour, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Steve Cumming (Bayer) will provide a Dicamba Training for Xtend Soybeans for farmers who are planting dicamba-tolerant Xtend soybeans.
$5 registration includes a “Post-Harvest Pocket Guide” by Purdue University. Register online at https://tinyurl.com/OnFarmGrainStorage3-31 by March 30th.
