Open Gate Farm Tours have been a local tradition in the Lehigh Valley for more than four decades. Each year farms throughout both Northampton and Lehigh counties “open their gates” to the public to help educate the community on exactly what they do! Come discover the wide array of farms that are growing fruits and vegetables, making cheese and yogurt, training horses, raising alpacas and so much more!

1. Heidel Hollow Farm
7419 Saegersville Road Slatington, PA 18080

The fourth and fifth generations of the Fink family invite you to their farm in Heidelberg Township. Energy to run the farm is from the 200kw solar array. Farm products grown here could end up on your dinner table or be loaded on ocean vessels to feed horses and cows. Computerized big bale hay processing system will be demonstrated. Mike Fink grows over 1,000 acres of vegetables –broccoli, sweet corn, tomatoes and pumpkins for local stores. The children can do the hay maze and test their knowledge with the Wheel of Ag. The Rural Preservation Association will have a food court featuring locally grown food and a bake sale.

Directions: Take Route 309 North to Pleasant Corners. Turn right on Bake Oven Road. Bear right on Saegersville Road. Follow Saegersville Road through two stop signs. Destination will be on the right.

2. Venture Farms
5728 Fritzinger Road Germansville, PA 18053

Venture Farms is a self-contained horse farm that also grows their own hay. They board, lease, do pony parties, trail rides and breed some Quarter Horses, Appaloosas, mini horses, and donkeys. They offer a free hayride and petting zoo for their visitors. If you would like to take a pony or horse ride, these will be available with a fee. They also have a food court. Learn a little more about the horses and all the aspects that go into their care.

3. Eight Oaks Craft Distillers
7189 Route 309 New Tripoli, PA 18066

This a true family farm distillery situated on a 300-acre farm, which has 50 acres devoted to grain grown for their spirits. They grow corn, rye, wheat and barley that are all non-GMO. Guests will be able to tour the still and the farmland. Samples and cocktails will be available.

4. Subarashi Kudamono
5452 Holstein Drive Kempton, PA 19529

Subarashi Kudamono is a grower of gourmet Asian pears for over 30 years. Not normally open to the public, they look forward to welcoming the public to see their pear trees and the wonderful fruit they produce.

Directions from Farm 3: Turn left onto Route 309 South. Turn right onto Route 143 North. Turn left onto Madison Street. Continue on Schochary Road. Turn right onto Sechler Road. Turn right onto Kistler Valley Road. Turn left on Route 863. Slight right onto Holstein Drive. Destination will be on the right.

5. Lyon Creek Farm
3502 Blacksmith Road New Tripoli, PA 18066

Together, four generations farm hay, corn, wheat, soybeans, sweet corn, produce, pumpkins, winter squash and fall ornamentals. There will be guided walking tours, pick your own pumpkins, farm equipment and antique tractor displays and farm animals. You can also try pumpkin bowling, pumpkin painting, and other activities!

Directions from Farm 4: Turn left onto Holstein Drive. Turn right onto Golden Key Road/Route 863. Make a left onto Briar Edge Road. Turn left tonto Blacksmith Road. Destination will be on the left.

6. Willow Haven Farm
7686 Herber Road New Tripoli, PA 18066

This farm features a farm market and brick oven. They grow vegetables and raise animals using only organic methods. During your visit, you can enjoy brick oven pizza, hayrides and guided tours. There will also be a wool spinning demonstration.

7. Weathered Vineyards
7670 Carpet Road New Tripoli, PA 18066

Weathered Vineyards is a 26-acre farm/vineyard with 5 acres of cultivated grapes, 10 acres of soybean with the rest remaining forested. They will be giving tours of the winery and vineyard, explaining why and how they use trellis system to ensure healthy grapes. Depending on the harvest dates, they may be able to display different parts of the winemaking process including fermentation, destemming and pressing. Wine tasting will be available.

8. Gress Mountain Ranch
3264 Highland Road Orefield, PA 18069

The Gress Mountain Ranch is a public charity, housing large, small, and exotic animals in a sanctuary. The animals become therapy animals and help people improve their self-worth, communications skills, and learn respect for all living beings. There will be baked goods, handmade alpaca and llama fleece items, food stands, pony, horse and donkey cart rides, petting zoo, yard sale, and raffle. All contributions benefit the animals.

Directions from Farm 7: Make a right onto Carpet Road. Turn left onto Lyon Valley Road. Turn right onto Route 309 South. Turn left onto Kernsville Road. Sharp left onto Weidasville Road. Slight right onto Highland Road. Destination will be on the left.

9. Manito Equestrian Center
2160 North Cedar Crest Boulevard Allentown, PA 18104

Manito is a 60-acre horse farm and riding school. It is also the site of Manito Life Center, and a non-profit organization offering equine-assisted activities to individuals experiencing trauma and children and adults with a variety of special needs. There will be walking tours, refreshments, and grooming demonstrations. Tour participants will observe a benefit horse show in progress and will have a walking tour of the farm.

Directions from Farm 8: Turn right onto Highland Road. Slight left onto Weidasville Road. Slight left onto Kernsville Road. Kernsville Road turns into Orefield Road. Turn right onto Ritter Road. Turn right onto North Cedar Crest Boulevard. Destination will be on the right.

10. Burnside Plantation
1461 Schoenersville Road Bethlehem, PA 18018

This restored historic farm was established in 1748 as the first privately owned home of Bethlehem Moravians James and Mary Burnside. Operated by the Historic Bethlehem Museums and Sites, the plantation features the original farmhouse, barns and farm buildings dating to the mid-1800s and one of only two hose-powered wheels in the country.

Directions from Farm 9: Make a right onto Cedar Crest Boulevard. Turn left to merge onto Route 22 East towards Bethlehem. Take the Schoenersville Road exit. Bear left at the Wawa to stay on Schoenersville Road. Destination will be on the left.

11. Flint Hill Farm
1922 Flint Hill Road Coopersburg, PA 18036

This is a 26-acre nonprofit agricultural education center and dairy. There will be hay wagon rides to the pumpkin patch, pony rides, tours, food stands and face painting. There will also be performances by Dave Fry and the Godfrey Daniel.

Directions from Farm 10: make a left onto Schoenersville Road. Bear left onto Eaton Avenue. Make left onto 8th Avenue. Take the Route 378 South exit. Follow 378 through Bethlehem. Make a left onto Landis Mill Road. Turn right onto Taylor Drive. Turn left onto Flint Hill Road. Make a right onto Forest Drive and destination will be on the left.

12. Hausman Fruit Farm
2824 Limeport Pike Coopersburg, PA 18036

Hausman’s is family owned and operated, currently raising the fifth generation of farmers. Take a free hayride to pick your own pumpkins at the farm. There will be baked goods, apples, canned fruit, jams, jellies, pumpkins, fall décor, and mums. There will be many activities, including cider pressing, apple butter making over an open fire, old-fashioned corn shelling, corn maze, a free hay maze, scarecrow making, face painting and a corn harvesting demonstration. Weather pending soybean harvest demonstration will take place. Apple cider concessions are available.

13. Marwell Dairy Farm
2072 Cassell Road Coopersburg, PA 18036

Marwell is a dairy, crop, and hog operation with 224 owned acres and they farm 1,000 more acres. This farm is a partnership between Robert Gehman and his two sons Barry and Bob, Jr. and Barry’s son, Wendell. They grow corn, soybeans, wheat, rye, hay, and pumpkins. They also have a peach orchard. They will offer tours that highlight the cycle of a cow’s life and how crops are planted and harvested. They will also offer chocolate milk, hayrides and Leidy products to sample.

14. Pappy’s Orchard
2576 Cassell road Coopersburg, PA 18036

Pappy’s Orchard has been serving the community with pride for five generations. The orchard is home to rows of beautiful apple and stone fruit trees, fruit and vegetable patches and fruit bushes. This vast and bountiful Fruitopia serves as the main resource for their on-site bakery. Seasonal pies and cakes, breads and pastries, and jams and fruit spreads are made with fresh ingredients that come straight from the orchard. You can even find made-from-scratch applesauce in the late summer and fall, fresh-pressed apple cider, and a wide assortment of signature items. Activities include a walking tour through the orchard, apple cider samples, live animals, the chance to talk with the farmers and much more.

15. Kraussdale Alpacas
5169 Kraussdale Road East Greenville, PA 18041

The Kraussdale Alpacas farm raises alpacas and produces yarn from their fiber. Visitors can browse through the Alpaca Boutique to see all the different ways alpaca fiber can be used. Visitors can also touch the animals to feel the softness of their fiber and learn about alpacas, the yarn making process and learn about the fiber processing. Spinning, weaving and felting demonstrations will be shown.

16. The Seed Farm
5854 Vera Cruz Road Emmaus, PA 18049

The Seed Farm is a nonprofit, educational and working farm. They operate a new farmer training program and farm business incubator on 42 acres of preserved farmland. Their programs provide access to training, land and equipment, helping to cultivate the next generation of farmers while growing food for the Lehigh Valley. Come take a tour of their training and incubator farms. Circle of Seasons Charter School will present fun children’s activities. Snacks and drinks will be available.

17. Boots and Saddle Riding Club
2850 Fish Hatchery Road Allentown, PA 18103

In 1938, this unique riding club was organized as a Non-Profit Corporation for the sole purpose of promoting closer fellowship among horse lovers. It is managed and maintained by its members and offers 10 green lush pastures, miles of beautiful riding trails and indoor and outdoor rings for horse shows. You can take a tour of their barn, which houses over 30 of their members beautiful horses. There will be walking tours, face painting and you can attend the horse show!

18. Historic Haines Mill Museum
3600 Haines Mill Road Allentown, PA 18104

The Haines Mill has stood on the Cedar Creek since Colonial times (circa 1850). Haines Mill Museum offers a trip into the world of technology that supported early farm life. They will be giving guided tours.

19. Grim’s Orchard and Family Farms
9941 Schantz Road Breinigsville, PA 18031

Grim’s Orchard operates on 100 acres, which includes a 5 acre corn maze, 25 acres of pick-your-own orchard, 20 acres of pick-your-own pumpkins, strawberry patch, gourds, jack-be-littles, and over 10 different types of squash. Grim’s fall festival is full of family fun, with their corn maze, hayrides showing the amazing scenic views of the farm, delicious apples waiting for your pick, play corral for both adults and kids and barnyard animals. Also, learn about how corn, pumpkins and apples grow and why bees are important to agriculture. Full kitchen and bakery with tasty treats and their delicious apple cider slushies and apple cider donuts are available too.
