Join Future Harvest and Deep Roots Farm for an interactive field day designed to introduce beginning farmers to the benefits of growing in a high tunnel. Deep Roots Farm is a woman owned and operated farm located in Brandywine and Upper Marlboro. During this field day, you will get to visit the 53-acre farm in Upper Marlboro, where Farmer Gale grows vegetables, herbs and fruit and raises chickens for eggs and meat. Farmer Gale has 10 years of farming experience. She has been passionate about food all her life and farming provides the opportunity for her to share this with her community. During the event, Farmer Gale and her team will walk you through:
- How they acquired their high tunnels
- How to pick the right style, design and location for your farm
- Best practices for irrigation and planting
- And the types of crops that they have found to be most successful in a high tunnel.
