HARVESTING SKILLS & FARM-TO-SCHOOL PROGRAMS

May 21, 2022, 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
Location:

Join Future Harvest and Penn Farm for an in-depth and hands-on experience with Delaware’s leading farm-to-school program. Farmer Toby Hagerott runs Penn Farm where he works with William Penn High School students, taking them through the farming process from seed to harvest. Toby and the agriculture students work directly with culinary students, nutrition services, and science students in their “Farm to School to Table” program. During this workshop, participants will learn about the program Toby and his students run and will get hands-on experience harvesting crops using their farm-to-school ordering system. This counts as a BFTP hands-on day. There are 35 tickets available for the 2022 class of the BFTP.

Bonus tour: after the hands-on harvesting exercise at Penn Farm, we will tour the nearby Food Bank Farm. The Food Bank of Delaware has a farm on their premises where fresh foods are raised and added to the food bank packages. The Food Bank Farm is pleased to welcome our group and give a brief overview of their operation.

Get your hands dirty and help Penn Farm harvest some food! This event includes lunch graciously provided by the Penn Farm and Nutrition Services.
