BED PREP & START-UP CONSIDERATIONS
Event Navigation
Join Future Harvest, Maryland Coastal Bays, and Splendid Earth Farm for an interactive field day designed to introduce beginning farmers to the process of preparing your dormant winter fields for spring planting. Splendid Earth Farm owner Jeanne Vander Clute is a recent BFTP graduate and will also discuss start-up considerations with her fellow BFTP community, along with using environmentally friendly best practices. This is a hands on BFTP field day. There are 30 tickets available for this workshop.
About the farm: Splendid Earth Farm is a woman owned and operated farm located in town of Berlin, Maryland. During this field day, you will get to visit the 1/4 acre farm where Farmer Jeanne Vander Clute grows vegetables, herbs, and flowers..right in the heart of downtown Berlin, MD! Farmer Jeanne has 5 years of farming experience and is a recent BFTP graduate. She is passionate about growing food and using sustainable farming methods, and loves sharing the fruits of her labor with her local community.
During this field day Farmer Jeanne will introduce you to seasonal spring farm tasks including:
- Removing winter crops/tarps
- Adding compost
- Broad forking
- Raking and planting
- Spreading wood chips
Get your hands dirty and help Splendid Earth Farm prepare beds for spring! And be part of a conversation about sustainable farming methods and food systems. This event will culminate with a potluck meal, ensuring there is time for informal Q&A and networking.
