Becker Labor Forum 2023

Labor issues continue to be a challenge for New York agriculture. This year’s Becker Forum “Surviving 2023: Unions, AEWR and Other Tough Issues” is February 8, 2023 at the Oncenter in Syracuse, NY. Becker Forum brings all sectors of New York’s diverse agricultural industry together to discuss pressing farm labor issues. The forum is an opportunity to learn and share views about important farm labor issues that affect your farm.

Farm unions and collective bargaining affects all farm employers. Practical strategies will be covered by attorneys Hillary Moreira from Bond Schoeneck & King, and Joshua Viau from Fisher Phillips. Michael Marsh, executive director of the National Council of Agricultural Employers (NCAE), will offer a federal regulatory update and Jeff Williams, NY Farm Bureau policy director, will provide a state update. A producer panel will share ideas to improve labor efficiency. New resources in Spanish and English to support farm employees’ physical and financial well-being will be featured. Richard Stup, Cornell University Agricultural Workforce Development Specialist, will provide an update about ongoing research into how NY farms are adapting to labor markets and regulations. Tips about managing stress, staying positive, and supporting your employees will be offered. Finally, details about the new, state-level working group to support NY farmers will be shared.
