FRANKLIN, Mass. — More than 100 consumers visited with Norfolk County Farm Bureau farmer members on Aug. 20, at Pour Richard’s Wine & Spirits store in Franklin, Massachusetts, to learn about farming in a Boston suburb. At the end of the day, more than $1,000 was raised for the Norfolk County Farm Bureau scholarship fund, which benefits college age students who are looking to study agriculture.
“We were very pleased with the turnout,” said Norfolk County Farm Bureau President Rudy Medeiros, a retired farmer. “By connecting our farmers with the public and allowing the consumers to ask questions about anything from CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) to milk pasteurization, we helped them understand where their food comes from.”
Donations towards door prizes and food and drink for sampling, were provided by the following farms and breweries:
- Homestead Farms from Rehoboth donated pork from their local CSA
- Cook’s Valley Farm from Wrentham donated vegetables
- Foxboro Cheese Company from Foxboro donated cheese
- Fairmount Fruit Farm from Franklin donated fruit and herbs
- Davidian Brothers Farm from Northborough donated vegetables
- The Big Apple Farm from Wrentham donated fruit
- Franklin Agway from Franklin donated flowers
- Bellingham Bee from Bellingham donated honey
- CraftRoots Brewery from Milford, and Wormtown Brewery from Worcester provided tastings of their beer
“We are very appreciative of all the donations we received and hope the public will continue to patronize these farms and businesses, as well as other farms in Norfolk County,” Medeiros said.
