INDIANAPOLIS — Combines combing through crops, children working with livestock at the fair, sprouting rows of emerging soybean plants in front of the sun on a spring morning. Agriculture and farm life provides endless opportunities for picturesque vistas. Share these moments in time with the Indiana Soybean Alliance (ISA) and the Indiana Corn Growers Association (ICGA), and you could win $1,000 through the Indiana Corn and Soybean Review Cover Photo Contest, sponsored by Farm Credit Mid-America, and see the picture on the magazine’s cover later this year.
For this contest, the Indiana Corn and Soybean Review is focused on finding truly stunning, cover-worthy photos. Farm Credit Mid-America sweetened the pot by offering a $1,000 first prize and $500 second prize.
Contestants should submit photos by email to photocontest@indianasoybean.com before the May 31 deadline. Send one photo per email. Each photo must have its own entry form, which can be downloaded at https://www.indianasoybean.com/2019-photo-contest
Farm Credit Mid-America actively partners with the Indiana Soybean Alliance, the Indiana Corn Marketing Council and the Indiana Corn Growers Association on their many projects and events. The agricultural lending cooperative serves nearly 100,000 customers throughout Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.
“When I start working in the morning and watch the sun rising over a crop that I’ve planted, that beauty reminds me why I love farming so much,” said ICGA board member Christian Rosen, who farms in Urbana, Ind. “A picture is worth a thousand words. When others see pictures from the farm, I think they understand why we work so hard on the farm, and why we enjoy it.”
All submitted photos must be digital images in a high resolution .jpg format – a minimum of 300 dpi at a size of 7 inches in length or width with RGB color.
A panel of ISA staff, ISA and ICGA board members and Farm Credit Mid-America representatives will judge the photographs. The photos will be evaluated on visual appeal, representation of Indiana production agriculture and originality. Judges want to see magazine-cover quality photos, and photos featuring people or livestock in connection with ag are encouraged, but not required. The winner will be announced in the summer issue of Indiana Corn & Soybean Review.
“I’ve always believed that the story of agriculture and our rural way of life needs to be shared with others,” said ISA board member Kevin Cox, who farms near Brazil, Ind. “What better way for the story to be told than by those who live it every day? I take a lot of pictures on our farm and share them on social media so that others can experience this life. A photo contest is a great way to share the life we love and live.”
The Indiana Soybean Alliance works to enhance the viability of Indiana soybean farmers through the effective and efficient investment of soybean checkoff funds and the development of sound policies that protect and promote the interest of Indiana soybean farmers. The ISA is working to build new markets for soybeans through the promotion of grain marketing, livestock, aquaculture, production research, biofuels, environmental programs, and new uses for soybeans. ISA is led by an elected farmer board that directs investments of the soybean checkoff funds on behalf of more than 28,000 Indiana soybean farmers and promotes policies on behalf of the nearly 600 dues paying members.
