TOPEKA, Kan. — Kansas Farm Service Agency (FSA) State Executive Director David Schemm announced last week that 43 Kansas counties are authorized for emergency haying and grazing of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres beginning July 16. Emergency haying in these counties will end August 15, with emergency grazing authorized through September 30. This emergency use does not include CP25.
There will be no CRP rental payment reduction for emergency haying or grazing. Producers in eligible counties can use CRP for their own livestock or grant another livestock producer use of their CRP.
The same CRP acres cannot be both hayed and/or grazed at the same time. For example, if half a field is hayed, the other half cannot be grazed. Only one cutting of hay is permitted and none of the hay can be sold.
