JEFFERSON CITY — Chris Chinn, Acting Director of Agriculture, and Dr. Scott Brown, Agriculture and Applied Economics Professor at the University of Missouri, shared information regarding agriculture’s role in the state’s economy, at this week’s joint meeting of the Senate and House agriculture committees.

Acting Director Chinn and Dr. Brown were invited to detail findings outlined in the recently released Missouri Agriculture and Forestry Economic Contributions Study. The most notable piece of data– Missouri agriculture and forestry contribute $88.4 billion to Missouri’s economy.

This study, commissioned by the Department of Agriculture and the Missouri Farm Bureau and funded by the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority, reiterates the fact that agriculture is the number one economic player in Missouri.
