MILLBROOK, N.Y. — The annual Dutchess County 4-H Livestock Sale will take place on Saturday, August 27th during the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck, NY. A buyers reception kicks off the event at 2 pm and the sale begins promptly at 4 pm in the Show Pavilion on Livestock Hill.
Youth who participate in the sale are 4-H club members who have not only completed all of the local 4-H Program requirements for the year, such as a project record portfolio and a public presentation, but youth who have raised their animals locally and brought them to the fair to be exhibited. All animals in the sale must earn a blue ribbon during their individual shows to be eligible to sell; this guarantees that only the highest quality animals are sold.
As a buyer at the 4-H Livestock Sale, you will be able to purchase your animal on sale day and select how you would like it cut and processed. A 4-H volunteer will then haul your animal to one of our pre-arranged slaughter facilities and when it is ready, the 4-H member from whom you purchased the animal will pick it up and deliver it to your home. The following year, you will receive a sale packet and a complimentary ticket to the Fair. If you are unable to make the sale and are still interested in purchasing an animal, mail and phone bids are accepted.
Each year the sale has hogs, steers, lambs, poultry, goats and rabbits. The champions and reserve champions from each species area sell first during our “sale of champions.”
Please join us for this wonderful event that supports Dutchess County 4-H youth. If you have any questions or would like to receive a sale packet please contact: Cassie Messina, 4-H Staff at (845) 677-8223 x108 or Katherine Mustello, 4-H Livestock Sale Committee Chair at (845) 705-0191.
