LAKE NORDEN, S.D. – On Saturday, September 18th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM Ag United and Midwest Dairy will be hosting an open house at Drumgoon Dairy north of Lake Poinsett. The Elliott family is especially excited to showcase their new robotic dairy barn. Visitors can get a tour of the new barn, watch the robots milk the cows and enjoy a free pancake meal by Chris’s Cakes. The Midwest Dairy Malt Wagon will be set up for milk shakes and the kids can meet the newest baby calves during the open house.
Drumgoon Dairy was established in 2006 when the Elliott family relocated to Hamlin County from Ireland. The farm has evolved over the past 15 years, growing from 1,400 cows into what it is today. With the new robotic barn, the Elliotts are milking and caring for 5,500 cows with the help of 55 employees. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about how dairy impacts South Dakota.
The Elliott family is no stranger to opening their farm for tours. This will be the third time the family has hosted an open house. “We appreciate the Elliott family’s willingness to open up their farm to their neighbors and folks from the surrounding communities,” said Heidi Zwinger, Outreach Director for Ag United. “It is a great opportunity for people to see firsthand how the family works hard to produce a safe and quality product, while caring for their cows and the environment,” added Zwinger.
