FORT DODGE, Iowa — Kapil Arora, Agricultural Engineering Program Specialist for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, thought that you would be interested in this workshop to be held on Wednesday, December 18 at the Webster County Extension Office in Fort Dodge.
This all day workshop will provide information essential for designing and planning water quality practices of bioreactors, control structures, drainage water management, saturated buffers and wetlands. The day will focus on the design and layout of new practices currently being considered for water quality improvements of farmland drainage.
The morning will focus on the nutrient reduction strategy, woodchip bioreactor sizing and layout and water table management with shallow tiles and installation of control structures. The afternoon session will include work sessions on the designing of saturated buffers and siting wetlands on small watersheds for improving drainage water quality.
Matt Helmers, Professor & Extension Engineer, ISU Extension and Outreach, will talk about Woodchip Bio-reactor Sizing and Layout; Chris Hay, Senior Environmental Scientist for the Iowa Soybean Association will share about Managing Drainage with Control Structures; Tyler Groh, post-doctoral research associate, NREM-ISU will discuss site selection and the design of saturated buffers. Kapil Arora, Agricultural Engineering Field Specialist, for ISU Extension and Outreach will cover Siting of Small Wetlands for small watersheds.
