OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture, Blayne Arthur, recently re-appointed Don Schieber to a five-year term on the Oklahoma Wheat Commission Board. Schieber, a wheat producer from Ponca City, will represent District V, which includes all counties east of the western boundary lines of Kay, Noble, Logan, Oklahoma, Cleveland, Grady, Stephens and Jefferson counties.
“We are excited that Don Schieber has been re-appointed to the Oklahoma Wheat Commission board,” said Mike Schulte, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. “His knowledge and experience with wheat production as a farmer and active roles held with the OWC Board and U.S. Wheat Associates Board continue to make him a valuable leader for the wheat industry on both state and national levels.”
Schieber’s responsibilities as a member of the commission include working with the other members to develop and oversee the implementation of policy and programs, approve budget expenditures, direct the funding of research, market development and public education, represent district producer interests, and promote Oklahoma wheat.
Don and his wife Cecelia currently farm approximately 1400 acres with 800 acres of that in wheat production. Schieber serves on the Farmers Coop Elevator Boards in Newkirk and Tonkawa and is a member of the Kay County Farm Bureau. He also serves on the Oklahoma Genetics Inc., Plains Grains Inc. Boards and the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Advisory Council along with the US Wheat Board of Directors.
He will continue his service with current commission members, Kenneth Failes, Cherokee; Tom Stephens, Guymon; Michael Peters, Okarche and David Gammill, Chattanooga. The Oklahoma Wheat Commission promotes greater utilization of wheat in both domestic and international markets through research, market development and public education.
