DODGE CITY, Kan. — Dodge City Community College and Area Technical Center will host two educational sessions at the upcoming 3i Show High School Ag Career Day showcasing their Diesel Technology and Welding Technology programs. Students will have the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the interactive learning that DC3 Tech programs offer. High School Ag Career Day provides students an opportunity to learn about careers in agriculture and will be held on Thursday, March 21, with sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Andy Ruiz, the newest DC3 welding instructor, will be hosting “Welding Processes and Fundamentals,”
discussing welding process principles and basic welding techniques. Students will have an opportunity to explore these principles and basic welding techniques on the Lincoln Electric VRTEX Welding Simulator, a familiar, video-game style platform. Discussions will be held on welding safety, farm welding, machine consumables, and basic maintenance and repair. Moreover, students will have a chance to win prizes by participating in the welding simulator competition!
“That’s always a fun way to interact with students,” said Ryan Ausmus, Dean of Workforce Development at DC3. “They really like it because they can try out welding without all the sparks and smoke.”
Colby Kline, professor of Diesel Tech at DC3, will have hands-on, interactive demonstrations while presenting “Diesel Safety.” Preventive maintenance of farm equipment will be discussed. Accident prevention in the shop setting as well as in the field will also be discussed, plus how to maintain computerized equipment. Moreover, career opportunities, career pathways and education needs will also be covered.
Ausmus will be on hand to assist with the event and welcome students. He will be available to answer questions about any of more than a dozen technical and career training options offered by Dodge City Community College. Visit www.DC3.edu for complete program information.
