CENTENNIAL, Colo. — Signature gatherers are needed from District 1 or 35 (eastern plains down to the San Luis Valley), to gather signatures to help protect private property rights.
Fifteen ballot initiatives have already been approved for circulation this summer, including an initiative proposed by the Colorado Farm Bureau that is designed to ensure property owners are properly compensated if new laws or regulations negatively impact the value of their property.
The measure follows an initiative recently filed that sets random and increased setback requirements for oil and natural gas development and land use planning activities by counties that will diminish property values. The measure could be applied to provide compensation should a county attempt to regulate the types of crops that may be grown and impact the productive capacity of the land.
“Your property is your property, and no one should be able to take that away from you,” said Chad Vorthmann, Executive Vice President of the Colorado Farm Bureau. “This is about protecting the Colorado way of life. Because taking private property is not the Colorado way.”
WE NEED YOU! To help collect signatures, or learn more about the initiative, contact Shawn Martini at shawn@coloradofb.org.
