KEOTA, Iowa — Keota-area farmer Tim Sieren, of Green Iron Farms, will host a Practical Farmers of Iowa field day exploring cover crops and diversified crop rotations on Thursday, June 20, from 5-8 p.m., on his farm near Keota.
With tight margins for farmers right now, and other setbacks stemming from the challenging spring weather, many farmers are looking for ideas about how to make their farms more resilient and profitable.
At this field day, Tim will showcase his diversified crop and livestock farm that includes corn, soybeans, small-grains crops like wheat and rye, cattle and hogs.
He’ll discuss how his crop rotation presents opportunities for diverse cover crops — and the benefits they bring to his farm — and highlight on-farm research he’s involved with looking at using cereal rye cover crops to improve weed control in soybeans.
