RANDOLPH, Vt. (AP) — Open farmland in Vermont that was the center of conflict between environmentalists and a developer will now be permanently conserved.
The 150 acres near Interstate 89 in Randolph has been purchased by the Ayers Brook Goat Dairy, which is bound to maintain it as agricultural land due to a conservation easement with the Vermont Land Trust. The Valley News reports the trust said Tuesday that the easement could allow for the creation of a public recreational trail.
Developer Jesse Sammis had worked for years to build a hotel and a mixed-use commercial project on the land, and was opposed in his efforts by grassroots group Exit 4 Open Space.
