MANKATO, Minn. — The EPA has approved the label for XtendiMax™ with VaporGrip™ Technology, an extremely low-volatility dicamba formulation for use on dicamba-tolerant soybeans and cotton. The product will provide options to control some glyphosate-resistant broadleaf weeds; however, questions remain around drift management and buffer area requirements.
Farmers, applicators and agronomists should be aware of a few concerns. Tank mixing of adjuvants and other chemicals is currently not allowed. There will also be rate-dependent, downwind buffer areas required for sensitive crops and areas. Sensitive areas include those with species designated by the EPA as threatened/endangered. Development of weed resistance to dicamba is also of concern.
To learn more, attend the session on dicamba regulations with Paul Haiker, Minnesota Department of Agriculture, during the MN Ag Expo, Jan. 25, in Mankato. If you have additional questions, please contact David Kee.
