DOVER, Del. – Cash receipts in Delaware from marketings of milk during 2020 totaled $11.9 million, down 11% from 2019, according to Shareefah Williams, Delaware State Statistician.
Producer returns averaged $17.10 per hundredweight, down 7% from 2019. Marketings totaled 69.5 million pounds, down 4% from 2019. Marketings include whole milk sold to plants and dealers and milk sold directly to consumers.
An estimated 1 million pounds of milk were used on farms where produced, unchanged from 2019. Calves were fed 90% of this milk, with the remainder consumed in producer households.
Delaware milk production decreased 4% in 2020 to 70.5 million pounds. The rate per cow, at 18,553 pounds, was 577 pounds above 2019. The annual average number of milk cows on farms was 3,800 head, down 300 head from 2019.
