TOPEKA, Kan. — From school nutrition programs to the advice dietitians and physicians provide, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGAs) impacts a large majority of consumers’ eating habits and food purchasing decisions. With this in mind, it is important that the beef industry generate as many stakeholder comments as possible supporting beef’s role in a healthy diet. Producers are encouraged to submit comments on the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s (DGAC) report prior to this week’s deadline of August 13. To do so, click here.
NCBA has been actively engaged in the DGA development process for the past two years to ensure the guidelines are focused on nutrition and based on sound science. The recommendations in the DGAC’s report do recognize the importance of including red meat in a healthy diet. However, anti-meat advocates are working to downplay the role meat plays in the guidelines.
