WATERLOO, Iowa — Black Hawk County Extension and Outreach 4-H program presents two new day camps focused on STEM activities for any youth currently in K-1st grade. Kindergarten and 1st graders just finishing the school year can register for “Monarchs on the Move” to learn about the biology and importance of the monarch butterfly. Youth will explore the monarch life cycle and more of the declining population through modeling. Campers will take the perspective of a caterpillar as they get food, avoid factors that impact survival, and make a chrysalis. They will also explore from the perspective of a butterfly as they find habitat to live in as an adult. All activities are carried out in a safe and clean environment with indoor and outdoor class space. Please dress according to the weather. Each camp is only $15.00 with beverages, snacks and programming materials provided. Bring your own sack lunch.

2nd – 4th graders just finishing school this year can register for “Passport to Adventure”! What better way to spend the day than traveling the world! Through charming picture books and engaging activities children will embark on a cultural journey that includes the exploration of languages, traditions, games, music, dance and cultural culinary from around the world. Today’s travel itinerary includes the United States of America, India, Ethiopia and Mexico! Pack your own lunch and register for this $15.00 day camp. Programming materials, snacks and beverages are provided. Choose from the following locations and dates:
