ST. CLOUD, Minn. — University of Minnesota Extension will be hosting a Dairy Revenue Protection vs New Farm Bill workshop on February 28th in Melrose.
The two-hour workshop will compare the new Farm Bill’s Dairy Margin Coverage with the old Margin Protection Program and Farm Bureau’s Dairy Revenue Protection. Nathan Hulinsky, Extension Educator with University of Minnesota Extension, will use spreadsheets and other tools to analyze the effectiveness of these programs at different coverage levels and varying pounds of coverage. Pros and cons of the programs will be highlighted.
The goal of this program is to help dairy producers determine which program is best for their dairy. Having a baseline knowledge of your cost of production will help you interpret the scenarios presented at the workshop; Mr. Hulinsky will share helpful tools for calculating your cost of production.
The workshop will be held on February 28th at the Melrose City Center (225 1st St NE, Melrose) from 1:30pm-3:30pm. There is no cost to attend to program; registration is requested but not required. To register, contact Emily Wilmes at 320-255-6169, ext. 3 or krek0033@umn.edu.
