AMES, Iowa — Dairy producers and the industry can stay current on issues affecting their business this fall and winter, as the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach dairy team continues two popular online venues.
The Dairy News and Views podcast and the Monthly Dairy Webinar series will both offer timely topics in the coming weeks and months.
The podcast series, which began in April, will continue with topics that include strategies for cold weather calf care, a look at forages and forage quality in 2020, and timely topics for managing dairy into 2021.
The dairy webinar series will continue Oct. 21 with a report on this season’s corn silage from Neal Wininger, feed and forage consultant with Dairyland Labs, Arcadia, Wisconsin.
Wininger will discuss what the lab analysis from this year’s corn silage samples show about the quality of the crop, and what producers can anticipate in terms of milk in the tank.
Jenn Bentley and Fred Hall, dairy specialists with ISU Extension and Outreach, said the industry continues to face issues with milk price volatility, and extreme weather events that have affected crop and forage production this year.
The podcast and webinar offer convenient ways for the industry to tune in – whether from the barn, farm office or the house – while maintaining social distancing guidelines.
No registration is required for either venue. The podcast is available on the dairy team website, on iTunes and Spotify. For the webinar, visit: https://iastate.zoom.us/my/dairyteamfredprogram
