FOND DU LAC, Wis. — Nutrition plays an integral role in the health and production of the dairy milking herd. One of the largest expenses on the farm in the cost of producing milk, dairy farmers must make sure to be feeding the herd clean, digestible feed sources.
UW-Extension Fond du Lac and UW-Extension Washington and Ozaukee Counties will each be hosting a one-half day “Dairy Nutrition Insight” Meeting on Thursday, February 21, 2019. The morning session (10:30 am to 12:30 pm) will be held at Alma’s Café, 751 Church Street, Allenton. The same session will be again offered in the afternoon (1 pm to 3 pm) at UW-Extension Fond du Lac County, 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac.
Featured presenters will focus on various aspects of nutrition. UW-Madison Department of Dairy Science Adjunct Professor and Rock River Laboratories Director of Research & Innovation John Goeser, PhD, is the guest speaker on “Your Feed Hygiene & Cleanliness: Merging Veterinary & Nutrition Sciences to Improve Health and Performance”. UW-Extension Dairy & Livestock Agents Tina Kohlman & Steph Plaster will discuss with attendees “Mycotoxins: The Silent Thief”.
The program is open to any individuals with interest regarding dairy marketing. There is no fee for the program; however, pre-registration by February 19th is strongly encouraged to ensure materials and light refreshments.
