HARRISBURG, Pa. — High school students interested in dairy industry careers are invited to participate in the Dairy Leaders of Tomorrow Farm Tour on Oct. 5. The tour, which will be held in Centre County, will give students the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of modern working dairy farms, while showcasing careers as well as agricultural technologies used to help improve today’s farming practices.

“We are excited to showcase two unique, innovative and profitable dairies in central Pennsylvania,” said Brittany Haag, dairy education program manager. “This tour will show students the tremendous opportunities available to them in the future within our dairy industry whether it is research at Penn State or working directly on the farm.”

The day will begin at the Penn State dairy barns, with a chance to chat to current college students who have pursued an education in the dairy industry, providing insight to decisions they made to create their career path in dairy. After lunch at the Penn State Berkey Creamery and a short tour of the facility, the day will continue to the Paul Dotterer & Sons Inc. Farm, in Mill Hall, Pa., owned and operated by Paul and Candice Dotterer. During both tours of the dairy facilities, students will hear from industry representatives who will share information about their role on the dairy farm, as well as introduce them to the several careers that are available within the dairy industry.

Students must register for the Dairy Leaders of Tomorrow Farm Tour by Sept. 21. Locations for bus pick-up will be finalized at the end of registration.

Teachers that register 10 or more students will receive a free 4D Anatomy Cow Model for their classroom.

This tour is funded by the Center for Dairy Excellence Foundation of Pennsylvania.

More details and information can be found by visiting www.dairyleadersoftomorrow.com under the On-Farm Experiences tab. To register, contact Brittany Haag at the Center for Dairy Excellence at 717-346-0849 or bhaag@centerfordairyexcellence.org.
