PLAINVIEW, Minn. — UMN Extension along with Minnesota Dairy Initiative are partnering with Emerald Spring Dairy to hold a field day and farm tour on August 9th from 12:30 to 3:30.
Emerald Spring Dairy is a multigenerational farm that milks around 1000 cows near Plainview.
The program will include a roundtable discussion with Rita, Maurie, and Darrin Young along with other key farm employees about their management. Forage production, nutrient management, facilities, cover crops, calf management, along with your questions will be up for discussion.
Features of the farm that you’ll see on the tour include a double 16 parlor, a newly constructed cross ventilated bar, group calf housing with automatic feeders, and a sand separation system.
In addition to the roundtable and tour, Tom Anderson, Farm Business Management Instructor with Riverland Community College will discuss dairy profitability trends, areas to consider efficiency improvements, and milk price protection.
