WILBERFORCE, Ohio — Designed for beginning growers, Central State University Extension (CSUE) is partnering with the Agriculture Incubator Foundation (AIF) Farm to teach a hands-on workshop in blackberry cane pruning.
The program, which will take place beginning at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at the AIF Farm located at 13737 Middleton Pike, Bowling Green.
Participants will:
- Learn how to prune out the old canes and train next year’s canes
- Learn how to prepare the blackberry canes for winter
- Learn how to reduce disease and increase blackberry yields
Presenters will include CSUE Agriculture/Natural Resources Educator Michelle Wallace.
“Blackberries, with a little management, can grow well in Northwest Ohio,” Wallace says. “Knowing what canes to remove and what canes to train will help ensure good yields and reduce disease.”
