UNION SPRINGS, N.Y. — CCE Cayuga County Winter Shop Meetings continue on Thursday, March 3, 2022 12:30-2:30 PM with “Cover Crops, Manure and Reduced Tillage Decision Tree” at Spruce Haven Farm/Doug Young 5004 White Rd Union Springs. DEC credits pending and 2 CCA credits available.

Cover/double cropping requires a whole farm planning approach. Make sure you come out for our next Shop Meeting on March 3 with Kirsten Workman, Nutrient Management Specialist and Joe Lawrence, Dairy Forage Specialist both with Cornell University Pro Dairy.

Cover Cropping is valuable for overall crop productivity and environmental sustainability on all farms. However, in northern climates careful planning is needed to understand what crops will work and what adjustments to the cropping program are needed to make cover crops successful.

The Shop Meeting format allows and encourages an exchange of ideas, questions and answers between you and researchers. Kirsten and Joe will focus on how to fit manure with reduced/no-till, cover crops, rotations, and precision nutrient management.

Come on out, bring your camp chair and help put together a cover cropping plan for your farm.
