EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. — Northern Plains Potato Growers Association (NPPGA) is looking to fully fund another salad bar valued at nearly $3,000 to a school district in our geographic footprint which includes all of North Dakota and Minnesota Area 1 (NW Minnesota). Potatoes USA will match our donation to a second school district.
Last year NPPGA donated a salad bar to the Park River, ND School District and Potatoes USA matched our donation and delivered one to the Fort Yates, ND School District.
The salad bars come in two sizes; the standard height a shorter model especially designed for smaller children. Park River chose the shorter model and has stationed it along side their older taller model. The little kids love it! The salad bar can be adapted to either hot or cold serving trays, or a combination of both.
The objective of the program is to encourage the preparation and delivery of healthy fruits and vegetables, including potatoes, to school age kids K-12. Potatoes USA provides a follow-up support program that shows school lunch programs ways to best utilize the salad bar including healthy potato presentations.
Readers, please contact your local school district and encourage them to apply! There is a simple application to fill out at this web address: http://www.saladbars2schools.org/get-a-salad-bar/schools/. The school district must also notify me when they apply so we can set up funding for the donation. I can be reached by email (tkreis@nppga.org) or by calling 218-773-3633.
Please submit the application as soon as possible before the program ends!
