ITHACA, N.Y. — To help New York state farmers and the food systems community process and react to the rapidly-changing landscape impacted by the COVID-19 Corona virus, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) is providing notifications and educational opportunities through the New York Extension Disaster Education Network (NY EDEN) website.
From up-to-date alerts from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets on food safety, animal care, and labor regulations to videos helping producers communicate about the virus to Spanish-speaking farm workers as well as financial and mental health resources, NY EDEN features research-backed resources from Cornell Cooperative Extension educators and specialists and Cornell faculty and programs such as:
- The Cornell Institute for Food Safety
- The Cornell Small Farms Program
- The Cornell Agricultural Workforce Development Program
- The Cornell Farmworker Program
- NY Farm Net
As part of its mission to “put knowledge to work,” CCE launched its NY EDEN initiative to serve New York residents when crises arise. It is a trusted source for up-to-date information on how to prepare for, what to do during, and how to act after disaster situations. As part of the national land grant network, CCE has access to a wealth of research-backed resources prepared by university extensions across the country, including Cornell. NY EDEN is an augmenter for local, county, and state emergency response and recovery.
The NY EDEN team is working hard to keep the website updated with the latest information on Coronavirus impacts in New York state across CCE’s programmatic areas. Subscribe for daily email updates by visiting https://eden.cce.cornell.edu and entering your email address.
