APPLETON, Wis. — Wisconsin harvests more corn for silage than any other state in the nation with approximately 1/3 of the corn planted in Outagamie County being ensiled as forage. The Outagamie Forage Council, in cooperation with Fox Valley Technical College and the Midwest Forage Association, will be hosting Corn Silage Drydown events to help farmers maximize both the quality and quantity of this year’s crop. Farmers and agronomic professionals should bring 4-5 stalks from each field they would like tested. Testing will begin at 12:00 p.m. (noon) and conclude by 3:00 p.m. Samples will be tested on a first come, first served basis. Any samples that cannot be finished on site during the time allotted will be taken to Dairyland Labs in DePere for analysis and results will be available the following day on the UW-Extension Corn Silage Dry- down website located at http://fyi.uwex.edu/silagedrydown/.
