MADISON CO., N.Y. — The Madison County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed the Month of October as “Cooperative Extension and 4-H Month” and encourages all citizens of Madison County to recognize the efforts and dedication of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association, local volunteers and 4-H Program.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County has served the community for over 100 years with a foundation of enabling people to improve their lives and communities through partnerships that put land grant university experience and research knowledge to work. As part of the nationwide land grant system, CCE is a partnership between federal, state and county governments; the educational outreach of Cornell University knowledge and research; and youth, staff and volunteers.
Across NY, nearly 500 Extension educators partner with 65,000 volunteers to assist six million individuals and business people in New York State. In Madison County, Extension Educators partner with other local organizations and over 100 local volunteers, who contribute their time, talent and leadership, promoting agriculture and sustainability.
As part of CCE, 4-H Youth Development serves one of every eight youth in New York State and continues to provide meaningful positive youth development experience for over 1,000 youth of Madison County. The program invests in the state’s future by enriching the school experience and helping young people learn about healthy lifestyles, develop their personal leadership skills, contribute to their communities and strengthen their science and technology abilities.
Most recently, CCE youth programming now includes a pilot program of Agriculture in the Classroom touching 3rd grade classrooms across the County. This complements the long standing Agriculture Literacy Week that serves over 2,500 youth from every Madison County township.
