RALEIGH, N.C. — Are you a private landowner in North Carolina or Virginia managing a woodlot or larger forest track? Do you want to learn about free technical assistance and estate planning tips? If yes, make plans to join North Carolina and Virginia Conservation Partners at a Forest Landowner Legacy Conference being held at Halifax Community College, 100 College Drive, in Weldon, NC on July 20 and 21.
The workshop will provide forest landowners with information about estate planning strategies, state forestry agencies technical assistance, available cost-share programs, and local timber industry trends. The workshop is hosted by the Sustainable Forestry and Land Retention Project managed by the Roanoke Electric Cooperative and The Roanoke Center. The workshop is open to all interested forest landowners in North Carolina and Virginia.
Day 1, July 20, starts at 12:30 p.m. with several exhibitors on hand to answer questions directly about programs and technical assistance resources, consider it conservation speed dating. Then a variety of speakers will address estate planning and forestry management, ending at 5 p.m. Day 2, July 21, starts up again at 10 a.m., building on the information presented the previous day; lunch is provided. Registration starts at 11 a.m. for either day. Across both days, landowners can engage directly with state forestry and agriculture agencies, U.S. Department of Agriculture agencies, forest industry representatives and estate planning experts. Come with questions and take advantage of the collective brainpower.
